Abstract

110,490. Wooding, F. March 30, 1917. Vertical-cutter type for cutting sheet material in direotion of feed.-Apparatus for cutting laces &c. consists of a holder 7 for a fixed knife 9 and an adjustable gauge 3 having a shoulder 4 and an overhanging lip 5. The gauge is mounted between guide-bars 2 and under cross-bars 14, 21, and is provided with a cam lever 12, having a flat bearing on the bar 14, for the purpose of adjusting the distance between the shoulder 4 and the knife, and thereby the width of the lace. The laces may be cut from a straight strip or from a circular disk. A nick is made in the end of the material and the narrow part is pushed in between the knife and the gauge; the projecting end is then grasped in the hand to pull the material over the knife. Instead of using a knife fixed in the holder, a hand-knife may be held therein.
