Abstract
1,104,229. Ingot moulds. INGOT AID CO. Inc. 20 Jan., 1966, No. 2734/66. Heading B3F. A hot top refractory bottom ring comprises an upwardly extending wall portion 9 spaced outwardly from the inner surface of the ring to define an upwardly opening recess which receives the hot top metal casing 1 and the ring at the bottom of the wall projecting outwardly from the wall to space the wall from the ingot mould thus forming around the wall an upwardly opening well 19. The external periphery of the ring is provided with a tapered rib 6 which forms a seal between the ring and the inside surface of the mould 3. A clip 13 forms the means of securing the refractory bottom ring 5 to the metal casing 1. The hot top casing may be lined by a layer 15 of sand base refractory material, adjacent the casing 1 and further layers 16, 17 may be applied to the first layer 15. The second layer 16 is made of an insulating material less dense than the layer 15 and the layer 17 is made of an exothermic material. The layers 15 and 16 may be reversed, i.e. layer 15 forming the middle layer of the lining.
