Abstract
Zinc is electro-deposited from an aqueous bath comprising a zinc source, e.g. zinc oxide, carbonate, chloride, acetate, citrate or sulphate, which has been substantially freed from lead and/or copper impurities, e.g. by treatment with zinc dust and sodium sulphide or polysulphide; hydroxyethyl-ethylenediamine-triacetic acid as the free acid or wholly or partly as the alkali metal or ammonium salt thereof; and citric acid and/or a source of chloride ions, e.g. sodium chloride. The pH of the bath may be from 2 to 13 and the operating temperature may be 20-75%C. Decolourizing carbon and other brightening, levelling and grain improving additives may be present in the bath.
