Abstract

A water tap is operable manually through a screwed spindle 10, and independently by a depending lever 13 which can be operated by the movement of a vessel to be filled. The spindle acts on the valve closure 5 through a resilient member 9 of compressible material. Lever 13 is connected to the housing 1 by a ball-and-socket joint, of which a half ball 14 has a cam surface engaging a plunger 17 which in turn engages a guide rod 6 carrying a support plate 18 for the member 9. When the pressure of this member on the closure 5 is relieved, the fluid pressure ensures opening of the valve. In another form, Fig. 2 (not shown), the valve is of diaphragm type. The depending lever (33) engages a slot in an actuating plunger (26) between which and a screwed operating knob (32) there is interposed a spring (29).
