Abstract

1,103,323. Washers; spiked plates. E. K. COLE Ltd. 25 March, 1966 [25 March, 1965], No. 12621/65. Heading F2H. [Also in Divisions H2 and H4] An extensible car aerial 1 is mounted on a tube 5 which also provides a housing for the said aerial when it is retracted. The aerial 1 slides in a brass tubular insert 3 in an insulating bush 2 fixed in the upper end of the tube 5. Two copper contacts 4 on the inner wall of the insert are connected to a stiff wire 6 which extends through the tube 5 and terminates in a plug pin 7, insulation being provided by an inner sleeve 8. A coaxial type cable 9 is terminated in a connector by means of which its outer screen may be connected to the lower end of the tube 5 and its inner conductor to the plug pin 7. A tubular socket 10 has a lower terminal extension 11 which is soldered to the said inner conductor, and at its upper end is fixed to, and insulated from, a connecting member 14, which is connected by a lead 15 to the said outer screen. A moulding 18 of plastics material encases the end of the cable 9, carrying the socket 10 and the member 14, and the connector is secured to the tube 5, after insertion of the plug pin 7 into the socket, by screws 19, which engage tapped holes in projections 16, extending from the member 14. The assembly is fixed from the outside of a body 29, the tube 5 being passed through an aperture therein, a washer 20 and a dome-shaped metal cap 21 having first been placed upon an extension of the bush 2. A special split spring washer 22 is next introduced which has a number of upwardly extending extensions 23 which, when the washer is centered, are located on the underside of the body 29 beyond the boundary of the aperture. The insert 3 extends outside the body 29, its end being threaded, and over it are placed an insulating washer 25, a dome-shaped insulator 26, and a metal cap 27, after which a nut 28 is engaged. On tightening the said nut, the washer 22 is closed, providing a locking action and ensuring good electrical contact.
