Abstract

1,103,287. Antihalation layers. FUJI SHASHIN FILM KABUSHIKI KAISHA. April 18, 1966, [April 20, 1965], No.16956/66. Heading G2C. Antihalation backing layers for photographic materials comprise (1) an alkali-soluble resin (2) carbon black or an antihalation dye and (3) an N-methyl or N-ethyl behenamide. Specified resins are maleic anhydride copolymers e. g. with styrene or vinyl acetate, cellulose acetate hydrogen phthalate, acrylic acid copolymers and the acetate hydrogen phthalate of polyvinyl alcohol. The antihalation layer may contain a surfactant e. g. sodium lauryl sulphonate and may have a subbing layer comprising a mixture of the polyester obtained from dimethyl terephthalate, ethylene glycol and triethylene glycol and cellulose triacetate, the support being polyethylene terephthlate.
