Abstract
1,103,188. Switches held set and freed mechanically. BOYNE PRODUCTS Inc. 2 Sept., 1965 [14 Sept., 1964], No. 37529/65. Heading H1N. A generally planar rigid contact blade 20 is pivoted in the notches 18 of the arms 16 of a conductive mounting member 10 (see also Fig. 1, not shown), and moves with a snap-action between a contact 14 and a stop 24 when a generally cylindrical operating member 26 is moved through the plane of the blade up inclined guide surfaces 19, and a tension spring 31 interconnecting the blade 20 and the operating member 26 causes the pivotal movement of the blade 20. The actuating means 37 is a rotatable shaft 38 causing upward movement of a screw 40 so that its head 41 moves the operating member 26 to snap contact blade 20 away from contact 14. Continued movement of member 26 up the inclined guide surfaces 19 of mounting member 10 stresses the spring 31 to provide a restoring force on blade 20, but the blade 20 returns to contact 14 only when shaft 38 is rotated back to its initial position. Alternatively, successive actuations of a button (94) cause a wedge (84) on a reciprocating plunger (83) to actuate the operating member (74), (Figs. 3, 4, not shown), of a similar mechanism, with a change-over contact blade (71), the spring (77) and guide surfaces (65) tending to restore operating member (74). A mechanism similar to that of a conventional ball-point pen retains a rotatable cup-shaped member (88) in one position after a first actuation of button (94), until a second actuation re-aligns ribs (90) of casing (50) with grooves in the flange (89) of member (88) by rocking of member (88) via interacting teeth (91) and (92). The two casing parts are riveted together at (53), (54). In Fig. 2, the cover 9 is a snap-fit and the switch is mounted by wings (3), (Fig. 1, not shown).
