[Also in Division E1] A pile reclaiming machine comprises a bridge 11 extending across the pile face f and movable on rails 20 towards said face, a harrow 90, movably mounted on said bridge to agitate the pile face, and a bucket wheel 40 also mounted on the bridge for movement independant that of the harrow. The harrow is pivotally mounted at 91 and by a pulley arrangement 92, 93, whereby to vary the angle of inclination, to a carriage 85 with wheels 86 running on rails 26 on the bridge and is arranged by means of limit switches 101 to traverse only the central portion of the bridge, i.e. that part of the bridge adjacent the peak of the pile. The bucket wheel 40 with buckets 41 delivers the material on to a rotating disc 50 for transfer to an endless conveyer 60 feeding an endless cross-conveyer 70 mounted on and extending parallel to the bridge 11 and which in turn feeds an endless conveyer 80 extending along the sides of the pile. The bucket wheel is mounted in bearings 45 on a carriage 30 with wheels 32 running on rails 25 on the bridge and arranged to traverse the whole of the width of the bridge. Appropriate drive means 16, 35, 87, 46, 52, 61, 72 are respectively provided for the bridge 11, the bucket wheel carriage 30, the harrow carriage 85, the bucket wheel 40, the rotating disc 50, the conveyer 60 and the cross-conveyer 70. Additional limit switch (116), (117) (Fig. 5, not shown) actuated by the harrow carriage 85 cause said carriage to perform short traverses at the ends of its travel to spread the pile towards the sides and so provide a more even pick-up for the bucket wheel. The harrow carriage 85 preferably leads the bucket wheel carriage 30 in its traverses across the bridge.
