Abstract

1281005 Discharging concrete mix from a belt conveyer WICKHAM ENG CO Ltd 10 Nov 1969 [8 Nov 1968] 53166/68 HeadingB8A [Also in Division E1] An apparatus for spreading granular materials over a surface comprises a frame 13, 14 on which is mounted an endless conveyer belt 17, means 34 movable lengthwise of the belt for laterally deflecting material advanced by the belt and an open-bottomed box-like feeding device 29 arranged to receive material deflected from the belt to maintain a head of the said material and to discharge the said material continuously through its open bottom on to said surface. As shown the feeding device 29 is a stationary trough having its main side walls extending parallel to the belt. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown) the box-like feeding device is arranged to travel longitudinally of the belt together with the means 34 for deflecting material. As shown the means 34 for deflecting material is a plough-assembly comprising two rollers 41, 41 supporting the upper run of the conveyer belt and a plough blade 34 extending diagonally across the belt between the two rollers having a convex edge in contact with the belt. The blade 34 is so mounted that it rests with substantially the whole of its weight supported by the belt. The plough assembly has a motor 33 the drive of which is coupled to a sprocket 44 which cooperates with a chain 45 functioning as a rack. The frame 13, 14, is telescopic in order to suit spreading surfaces of different widths. In order to vary the effective length of the belt accordingly the latter is formed with return loops 15, 151, the distance apart of which is adjustable. The apparatus has rail engaging wheels 27. Material is fed to the belt 17 from a hopper 22 under the control of an operator sitting at 48.
