Abstract

1,102,114. Lubricating. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. 12 Jan., 1967 [14 Jan., 1966], No. 1842/66. Heading F2A. A bearing 11 having a shaft 10 mounted therein is lubricated by means of a ring 12 which is mounted on the shaft and dips into a reservoir 13. The ring 12 lifts lubricant from the reservoir to the shaft 10 from where it is conveyed to the bearing 11, and throws lubricant on to a shield 14 which is positioned above the ring 12 so that it can direct lubricant to the bearing 11. The shield 14 has an arcuate portion 19, radially-disposed end-walls 17, each having an inwardly-projecting lip 16 thereon and having an aperture 15 therein to accommodate the ring 12; and may be provided with side-walls 18. The lips 16 prevent lubricant from escaping to the reservoir 13 via the slots 15.
