Abstract

[Also in Division F4] Support for fuel pins 2 in a nuclear reactor is provided by groups of strips 12 and 12A extending between drums 4 and 6, the strips of one group being disposed transversely in relation to the strips of the other group, one strip of each group engaging the surface of any fuel pin at positions such that the separation between the points of engagement is less than the diameter of the fuel pins. The axes of the fuel pins are disposed on an involute curve 10A. In other embodiments the axes of the fuel pins may be disposed on a triangular or square pitch. In the various embodiments the strips can either be curved and make continuous contact with the fuel pins or have projections which contact the fuel pin. The strips are welded to the end walls and may be tack welded to each other at their edges where they cross.
