Abstract
110,192. Sykes Interlocking Signal Co., W. R., and Tarrant, R. W. Oct. 12, 1916. Signalling-instruments.-Relates to hand-operated commutators, particularly for block telegraph instruments, of the kind in which the commutator is looked in each operative position until an independent unlocking movement, which may be effected by the actuation nf the hell plunger, is performed. The commutator 11 of ordinary construction is mounted in bearings 12, 13 and carries a cam 18 having peripheral notches 40, 41 engaged by the rounded upper end 19 of a spring- pressed jumper 20 sliding in guides 21, 22. The jumper 20 has a hole 29 adapted to receive a sliding pin 28 connected by u pin-and-slot connexion 27 to a bell-crank lever 25. In the normal position shown in Fig. 1, the pin 2R passes through the hole 29 and locks the jumper so as to prevent movement of the commutator. The depression of the bell plunger 17, which is mounted to slide within the commutator 11, moves the upper end of the lever 25 to the left as shown in Fig. 4, withdrawing the pin 28 so that the commutator can be rotated. The lever 25 is held in its unlocked position until the next movement of the commutator by the engagement of a pin 35 with the flat end 36 of a spring-pressed detent 24 pivoted to the jumper 20, rotation of the commutator depressing the jumper and detent 24 so as to allow the lever 25 to return to the position shown in Fig. 1. The notches 40, 41, Fig. 3, in the cam 18 may be shaped so as to permit rotation of the commutator in both directions or in one direction only.
