Abstract
Spinning solutions of acrylonitrile polymers in dimethylformamide have incorporated therein citric acid or diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid, e.g. in amounts of 25-800 parts per million based on the weight of polymer, in order to reduce the coloration of the solution. The polymers may contain up to 15% of comonomer(s), e.g. methacrylate, acrylate and chloroacrylate esters, (meth)acrylamide and mono-alkyl derivatives, unsaturated ketones, vinyl and vinylidene halides, vinyl carboxylates, esters of unsaturated polycarboxylic acids, N-alkyl maleimides, N-vinyl compounds, monolefins and derivatives such as styrene and furyl ethylene, and unsaturated sulphonic acids. In an example, an acrylonitrile-methyl acrylatesodium styrenesulphonate terpolymer is used, and the spinning solution also contains 0.4% (based on weight of polymer) of TiO2 as a delustrant. Flame retardants, pigments, antistatic agent and spinning adjuvants may also be included in the spinning solutions.
