Abstract

Wood in massive or chip form is treated with epichlorhydrin or a -dichlorhydrin and with an alkali, simultaneously or in either order. The alkali may be sodium hydroxide, ammonia, or diethylene triamine. The chlorhydrin may be in any suitable form. The treatment may be in a closed vessel at normal or superatmospheric pressure at a temperature of 0-150 DEG C. The treated wood may be heated at 100-180 DEG C.
