Abstract

Dispersing agents are prepared by sulphonating (1) naphthalene and condensing the naphthalene-2-sulphonic acid obtained with benzyl chloride or benzoin (cf Examples 1 and 3), (2) 1-methylnaphthalene and condensing the 1-methylnaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid with benzyl chloride (cf Example 6) and (3) phenanthrene and condensing the product with benzyl chloride (cf Example 5).ALSO:Dyestuff preparations comprise (a) at least one dyestuff that is sparingly soluble or insoluble in water and is suitable for dyeing textile fibres by the dispersion method, and (b) a water-soluble condensation product containing a monocyclic aralkyl residue attached to a sulphonated residue of an aromatic compound containing at least two condensed benzene rings. Preferably the condensation products have the general formula <FORM:1101671/D1-D2/1> wherein A is an aromatic residue containing at least two condensed rings, e.g. naphthalene, R1 is a benzene residue; R2 is hydrogen or a benzoyl residue which may be substituted and m and n are each 1 to 4, or their water-soluble salts and the condensation products of naphthalene-2-sulphonic acid with benzyl chloride or bromide, xylene chlorides and benzoin are specified. The dyes may be vat, disperse, methine, anthraquinone, nitro and azo dyes and the substrates mentioned are cellulose acetate, polyamides, polyacrylonitrile and especially polyesters. The examples describe dyeing polyesters at 120 DEG -130 DEG C and the printing of polyamides.
