Abstract
Fabrics made of aromatic polyesters, obtainable by heating glycols of the Series HO(CH2)n OH (in which n is greater than 1, but not exceeding 10) with terephthalic acid or an ester-forming derivative thereof under conditions which yield esters in a highly polymerized condition, are printed with acetate rayon dyestuffs, i.e. the aminoanthraquinones and aminozobenzenes and their derivatives which can be used for dyeing cellulose acetate rayon. The printing may be carried out in the presence of a swelling agent for the polyester, e.g. phenol, m-cresol, m-methoxyphenol (b -naphthol catechol, a -naphthylamine, guanidine, aniline and salts, b -naphthoic acid, salicylic acid, methacrylic acid, dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide, p-toluenesulphonamide, melamine, benzyl alcohol, acetophenone, cyclohexanone, glutaronitrile, adiponitrile, ethylene cyanhydrin, lactonitrile, nitrobenzene, tetrachloroethane, tricresyl phosphate, and tetramethyl sulphone; the water-insoluble swelling agents may be dispersed in water with a salt of a long chain fatty alcohol sulphate. In examples: (1) polyethylene terephthalate fabric is printed with a paste containing gum senegal, Perminal KB (Registered Trade Mark), methylated spirits, Resist Salt L, Duranol Brilliant Blue B200 paste and water, and then dried and steamed; (2) the first example is repeated after mixing m-cresol with the printing paste; (3) polyethylene terephthalate fabric is printed with a paste containing Solacet Fast Crimson BS, Solution Salt SV, gum tragacanth thickening, Perminal KB, Resist Salt L, methylated spirits and water, and then dried and steamed.
