Abstract

An electrolytic conducting solution for incorporation in an electrolytic recording medium contains a formaldehyde-sulphoxylate reducing agent. This agent may be an alkali-metal, or zinc formaldehyde-sulphoxylate. The solution may also contain an alkaline stabilizing agent, e.g. sodium or potassium stannate, silicate or aluminate, an alkaline buffer, e.g. an alkali-metal or alkaline-earth-metal formate, acetate, carbonate, bicarbonate, borate, phosphate or tartrate or a strong electrolyte, e.g. an alkali-metal nitrate, or combinations of these. A recording medium is made by impregnating a base sheet, e.g. of paper or cloth, with this solution. When such media are used in electrolytic facsimile recorders, ions dissolved from an anode (e.g. of silver or silver alloy e.g. Ag-Cu-Zn, gold or gold alloy, platinum, palladium, iron, lead or copper) or a compound formed by the metal and an oxidation product of the sulphoxylate (e.g. silver sulphide) and so form a visible mark.ALSO:An electrolytic conducting solution for incorporation in an electrolytic recording medium contains a formaldehyde-sulphoxylate reducing agent. When such media are used in electrolytic facsimile recorders, ions dissolved from an anode, e.g. of silver or silver alloy, are reduced to free metal and so form a visible mark.
