Abstract
A wire strand Figs. 1 to 3 (not shown) having a core (1) composed of successive layers of wires spun over each other with the same lay length, has two further layers (2, 3) of wires of equal-lay in relation to each other but of cross-lay in relation to the layers of the core (1). Additional double layer assemblies may be helically spun over said two further layers (2, 3); the wires of the or each additional assembly being of equal-lay in relation to each other but of cross-lay in relation to the equal-lay assembly over which they are spun. In Fig. 2 the core (1) has been die-formed to eliminate intersticial spaces. In Fig. 3 there is, between the core (1) and the two further layers (2, 3) a layer of wires (4) in the form of a cylindrical shell presenting a smooth inner and outer surface.
