[Also in Division F2] A breast-roller for guiding a pulp carrying wire-cloth web in a papermaking machine comprises a cylinder 1c connected in its central region to a raised part 3 of a cylinder 1b connected at lc to trunnions 2; the gaps between the cylinders are closed by packing rings 1 d. In use the cylinder 1b flexes due to the forces from the web thereby reducing longitudinal tension at the edges of the web and thus equalising tension throughout its width, and spreading the web from the centre of the roller towards its ends. In Fig. 1, not shown, a hollow cylinder is connected at its middle region to an annular support carried by a shaft.
