Abstract
A chemically bonded basic refractory contains 1-4% of rounded grains containing pores of a size not greater than 400 m and obtained by atomizing liquid pig iron. With magnesia as the base, a spinel is formed from the iron oxide which results in an oxidizing furnace atmosphere. Combinations of magnesia and chromite are also specified as base material. A boron compound and sulphuric acid or magnesium sulphate are optionals.
