Abstract
1,097,332. Extruding; jointing by forging. H. G. SANDERS & SON Ltd. June 23, 1964 [June 24, 1963], No. 25071/63. Headings B3H and B3P. A metal tube with an insert 17 locked in one end is made by positioning the insert within the bore 14 of an annular metal slug 13 and then cold impact extruding the slug into a tube 25, Fig. 3, and simultaneously locking the insert therein. The invention is used for making deformable thin metal tubes having a hollow nozzle 17 of thermoplastic material such as polyethylene or nylon. This is supported initially on a spring-loaded support 6 with its locking flange 20 within the bore of slug 13. A punch 8 with a nose 9 then impact extrudes the slug whilst the nose 9 passes through the hollow insert to locate it centrally. In other embodiments, Figs. 2, 4 (not shown), the slug has a conical bore or the insert has a locking groove beneath the flange.
