Abstract

109,715. Williams, E., and Bunch, W. H. Dec. 20, 1916. Cylindrical articles, drying.-Hollow articles such as projectile shells are dried by placing them with the open end downwards on supports b and drawing or forcing heated air through them. In the arrangement shown, a hollow plate a is heated by gas burners i and air is drawn from or forced into the plate through pipes h. The air passes through openings f communicating with vertical tubes e which extend nearly to the bottom of the shells d. The supports are open at c to allow the passage of the air. A single plate may be used and the heating may be effected by steam, electricity, or otherwise.
