This invention relates to gas-burners for burning gas made from petroleum-oil or its distillates by forcing air through it, has for its object the construction of a burner that will produce a steady flame free from. intermittent pulsations and that will prevent the possibility of gas burning back into the supply-pipe, and'consistsin certain improvements, which Will be fully disclosed in the following specification and claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section of the burner; Fig. 2, a vertical longitudinal section through a furnace provided with a burner, and Fig. 3 a front elevationof the same.
Reference being had to the drawings and the letters thereon, A indicates the burner, 13 the furnace, and C a boiler.
The burner consists of a hollow cylindrical body a, having a receiving-chamber 11 therein and provided with openings 0 c at each end and an opening (1 on its upper side, a hollow cylindrical body e, having a distributingchamber f therein, and the two chambers b and f are connected by a pipe g, which extends through the chamber 1), is screw-threaded from a pointinside of the inner end of the body a to its outer end and is provided with a series of perforations it within the receiving-chamber and a cap a at its outer end.
The openings 0 c are smooth-bored, and the pipe 9 is secured in position by nuts 7c k, with a packing Z Z interposed between them and the ends of the bosses m m. The openburner and also serve as asafeguard against the gas burning back into the source of supply. The perforations equal in number the discharge-tubes n and are of the internal diameter of the tubes--na mely, one-fourth of an inch. a
The discharge-tubes n are about twelve inches long and are arranged in a circle in the inner head of the body 6.
The gas flowing from the receiving-chamher I) through pipe g into distributing-cham berfexpan ds in the latter chamber,and thereby absorbs the pulsations of the pump or from any other cause and produces a steady and uninterrupted flow of gas to the tubes The burner is surrounded by an annular air-supplying chamber E, formed in the wall or masonry of the furnace, and may be provided with a valve F, having a series of openings o to regulate the quantity of air admitted to supply oxygen to the gas.
The combustion-chamber G of the furnace is provided with perforated tile 19, of refractory material, arranged at an angle to the plane of the burners and against which the gas from the burners and the air impinge as they enter the combustion-chamber. The tile becomes highly heated, and the gas and air, striking the inclined surface, enter the perforations, arethoroughly com mingled, and burn with great intensity.
Below the tile 13 is a chamber q, filled with pieces of fire-brick or other refractory material and into which the gas and the air on ter through the perforations in the tile.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed is- 1. A gas-burner provided with a receivingchamber, a distributing-chamber separated from the receiving-chamber, a pipe extending through the receiving-chamber, connecting with the distributing-chamber and provided with perforations Within the receiving-chamher and a plurality of discharge-tubes com municating with the distributing-chamber.
2. A gas-burner provided with a receivingchamber having openings at'each end and an 7 opening on one side, a distributing-chamber separate from the receiving-chamber, a pipe extending through the receiving-chamber, provided with perforations Within said chamher and connected to one end of the distributing-chamber, and discharge-tubes connected to the opposite end of the distributingchamber.
3. A gas-burner provided with a receivingchamber having a smooth-bored opening at each end and a screw-threaded opening on one side, a supply-pipe engaging said screwthreaded opening, a pipe externally screwthreaded extending through said chamber and provided with perforations within the chamber, means for securing the chamber to
