Abstract
1,096,336. Resistance heating elements. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. July 20, 1966 [Aug. 2, 1965], No. 33022/65. Heading H5H. A furnace element 1 comprises a plurality of rings 16 of a refractory metal oxide arranged in an end-to-end relationship to form a tube. The annular rings 16 are shaped to interengage and are of zirconia-yttria or zirconia-calcia. The construction of the oxide resistor furnace using element 1 is generally as in Specification 1,049,390. The insulating member 8 has a layer of platinum 11 and acts as a supplementary heater until element 1 is at a high enough temperature to conduct current.
