Abstract

943,054. Powder metallurgy. NORTON CO. June 22, 1961 [July 19, 1960], No. 22610/61. Drawings to Specification. Heading C7A. [Also in Divisions C1 and H5] A hollow cylindrical electrical heater bar formed of 55-85% recrystallized silicon carbide has its hot zone portion impregnated with molybdenum silicide, for use in furnaces up to 1700 ‹C. The silicide is MoSi2 which may contain Mo3Si and MosSi2 and contains not more than 37% Si and at least 90% total Mo and Si. The hot zone may be in the form of a helix which may be between the cold ends which are impregnated with MoSi2 or Si which may contain 0À078-5% free or combined boron.
