Abstract

1,096,236. Control of motors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 9, 1966 [Nov. 12, 1965], No. 48084/65. Heading H2J. [Also in Division F2] An actuator 10 is disposed at a remote station 11 for control from a station 12 through a twowire D.C. transmission line 13, 14. The actuator may comprise a three phase motor 15 which drives member 16 and is energized through control unit 18 associated with " open " and " close " relays 20D, 21D. Contacts 30 are closed and contacts 31 are opened when the actuator is intermediate two limiting positions and is moving towards its open position; relay 20D being energized through rectifier 22. A limit switch operates to de-energize the motor when the member 16 approaches the open position. To move member 16 to its closed position, contacts 31 are closed and contacts 30 opened to reverse the polarity between wires 13, 14, whereby relay 21D is now energized through rectifier 23. As before, a limit switch operates to stop the actuator in the closed position. A rheostat 32 is coupled to the actuator and co-operates with ammeter 36 which indicates the position of the actuator continuously between its open and closed limits. Diodes 24, 26, each provides a discharge path for the associated relay coil, and Zener diodes 25, 27, regulate the current therein. The actuator member may be driven by a D.C. motor or a valve-controlled hydraulic motor.
