Abstract
1,172,232. Control of motors. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 23 May, 1967 [24 May, 1966], No. 23046/66. Heading H2J. A pilot circuit for an electric motor having contactor CC comprises remote control switch RS which is moved to a " start " position to short-circuit resistor R3 and energize relay A with only resistor R2 in series therewith, contact A1 being closed and contact A2 opened. Relay B is now energized, since resistor R4 only is in series with it, whereby contact B1 opens and contacts B2, B3 close. The switch RS is then moved to the " running " position which brings the resistor R3 into circuit. Resistors R1, R2, R3 are now in series with relay A which drops out to re-open contact A1 and close contact A2. The contactor circuit is now completed to start the motor, the relay B being held in even though resistors R3, R4 are in series with its coil. The switch RS may be connected to the motor through an auxiliary cable. In a modification, the switch RS is located at the control unit and is connected to the control circuit through conductors and the pilot core of cable PC. The functions of resistors R2 and R3 are interchanged. In a further arrangement, the switch RS is replaced by push-buttons. The control circuit may be adapted for use with a gate end box operating as an intermediate slave of a multi-conveyer system. An additional relay is operated when auxiliary contacts are closed in the preceding gate end box as soon as it has completed its switching procedure. The relays A and B are then operated as described to close the contactor circuit.
