Abstract
A cathode-ray tube assembly comprises a cathode-ray tube, which has a luminescent screen (4) disposed on the inside of a glass window (1) which forms part of the tube envelope, and a glass sheet (6) which is located in front of the outside of the window, the glass sheet containing lead oxide and cerium oxide and the glass forming the window having a poor electrical conductivity and/or containing a low percentage of readily reducible compounds. The glass sheet (6), having the same curvature as the window (1), may be secured or bonded thereto or may be located in recesses in a cabinet in front of the cathode-ray tube so as to lie substantially parallel to the window (1). The glass forming the window should contain less than 10% by weight of sodium oxide together with not more than 2.5%, preferably 1%, of readily reducible oxides, particularly oxides of lead, arsenic or antimony, or alternatively not more than 1% sodium oxide with not more than 7.5% of readily reducible oxides. The glass sheet should contain 5-15% of lead oxide and not more than 1% of cerium oxide. Suitable examples are given.
