A grilling apparatus having an electric motor, 2, mounted on the grill casing, 1, for driving the grill spit, 7, anda coupling, 5, in the form of a simple push-on coupling which is engageable or disengageable with the grill spit in the longitudinal direction of its axis of rotation is characterised in that the coupling part of the driving motor is mounted so that it is movable in its axial direction relative to the grill casing. The driving motor is slidable axially by means of sleeves, 4, and guide pins 3. To uncouple the grill spit the motor is pulled into the position 2a with the aid of the handle 12 and against the force of the compression spring 13 so that the grill spit is dropped into the position shown in the drawing in between the two forked bearing plates 8 and 9. When the handle 12 is released the driving motor is moved under the force of the compression spring into position 2b such that the coupling, 5, engages over the end, 7a, of the grill spit in a locking manner.
