Abstract

1,095,250. Multi purpose bucket - lifting clamp assembly. G. G. TURNER (CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO). May 14, 1965, No. 20576/65. Heading E1F. To ensure of efficient gripping of loads in a digger bucket load handling assembly in which objects are gripped between clamp arms swingably mounted on the bucket and the front of the bucket, the arms are secured along a torsion tube rotatably mounted in the side walls of the bucket and turnable with respect thereto by a jack-actuated linkage connected to the tube between the arms. A second linkage coupled to the tube controls movement, on appropriate rotation of the tube, of an ejector plate, forming the rear wall of the bucket, through the bucket. The hydraulic circuitry associated with the two jacks available to actuate the first linkage is such that only one is effective until a predetermined pressure in the circuit is exceeded. An accumulator is effective, when the jacks are locked on the clamp arms becoming operatively effective on an object, to deal with any subsequent minor slippage of the object between the bucket front and the arms.
