Abstract

1,095,189. Heating rollers. CRYLOR. March 22, 1966 [March 22, 1965], No. 12603/66. Heading F2U. A heating roller comprises a hollow steel cover 1 secured to a driving shaft 2 and a stationary internal heating element 3, 4, the adjacent internal surface of the cover 1 and external surface of the element 6 both having total emission factors close to that of a black body, obtained by coating with matt black paint or with nickel, silver or gold block vaporized in high vacuum. As shown, for producing two temperature zones, the cover 1 has a high gloss chromed external surface, the heating element consisting of two axially separate electric resistances 3, 4. The drive shaft 2 is insulated by a steel tube 8 and annular layers 7 of diatomaceous earth agglomerate. The heating zones of resistances 3, 4 extend over an arc of 240 degrees, the remaining portions 6 being of diatomaceous earth insulant and each carrying a thermistor 9 and thermocouple 11 for temperature control purposes. The resistances 3, 4 may be replaced by a tube circulating heated liquid.
