Abstract

1290012 Mounting heating elements P H J A RICHARDSON 18 Feb 1970 [18 Feb 1969] 8605/69 Heading H5H An annular band heater 1 comprising a resistance wire or tape sandwiched between pieces of electrical insulation is clamped firmly in contact with the inner or outer surface of a cylindrical object to be heated by acircular bimetal strip 2 arranged inside or outside the heater 1 so that in use it expands or contracts to firmly clamp the heater 1 in contact with the object. As shown, the heater 1 is provided with a metal case 3 which has its longitudinal margins turned over on to the outer exposed surface of the bimetal 2 to retain it in position. The outer layer of strip 2 expands more than the inner layer in the arrangement shown, so that the heater is clamped tightly to the outside of a cylindrical object. The heater may be used to heat nozzles or barrels of plastics moulding machinery, fluid carrying pipes and hollow rollers used in the processing of synthetic yarns.
