Abstract

Basic mono-azo dyes of formula <FORM:1095121/C4-C5/1> in which R9 is Cl, Br or CN or an alkylsulphenyl, mono- or di-alkylaminosulphonyl group, R11 is H, Cl, Br or NO2 or a -CO-alkyl, alkylsulphenyl, mono- or di-alkylaminosulphonyl group, R12 is H, Cl, CN or an alkylsulphenyl, mono- or di-alkylaminosulphonyl group, R13 is H, Cl, Br or NO2, R18 is H, Cl, Br, or an alkyl group, R7 is a methyl or ethyl group, Y is -C2H4- or <FORM:1095121/C4-C5/2> is the radical <FORM:1095121/C4-C5/3> or <FORM:1095121/C4-C5/4> or together with R7 and the N atom bound to R7 and Y the radical <FORM:1095121/C4-C5/5> X- is an anion provided that R11 shall not represent NO2 when one of the radicals R9 or R13 is chlorine, Y is -C2H4- and K is as above, are prepared by coupling one mole of a diazo compound of an amine of formula <FORM:1095121/C4-C5/6> with 1 mole of a compound of formula <FORM:1095121/C4-C5/7> all symbols being as above. The dyes are particularly useful for dyeing polyacrylonitrile and its co-polymers, the dyeing being in aqueous neutral or acidic medium if desired as above atmospheric pressure. Yellow-violet shades are obtained. The Specification disclaims subject-matter in Claim 16 of Specification 1,008,636.
