Abstract
Sulphonic acids are prepared by adding elemental sulphur to an acrylic or a cyclic saturated hydrocarbon and reacting the resulting mixture with sulphur dioxide and oxygen. The hydrocarbon is preferably a normal or single branched paraffin of 8 to 18 carbon atoms or a cycloparaffin having 6 or 7 carbon atoms; more than 5% by weight of sulphur based on the hydrocarbon is preferably added; the sulphoxidation may be initiated suitably by acetic anhydride and is carried out at temperatures between 50 DEG and 80 DEG C.
