Abstract

1,094,709. Cooling gearing. DAVID BROWN GEAR INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 14, 1966 [Aug. 12, 1965], No. 34505/65. Heading F2Q. Means for cooling a gear unit comprise a cowl 14 secured to a gear casing 11, a fan 15 rotatably mounted within the cowl, and an electric motor having its rotor 16 connected solely to the fan 15. In a modification, the electric motor is of the inverted type, the stator being rigidly secured to the unit and the fan being rigidly secured to the motor casing. Preferably the fan is of the centrifugal type and the cowl is secured to that part of the unit which constitutes the sump.
