Abstract
1,056,269. Eddy current brakes and couplings. BIBBY & BARON (HOLDINGS) Ltd. March 11, 1964 [March 11, 1963], No. 9627/63. Heading H2A. Eddy current driving and braking slip couplings are combined in a generally cylindrical, e.g. aluminium, casing 1 whose interior is divided by an integral transverse wall 2 to opposite side faces of which the respective coupling stators 5, 6 are secured, and the driving coupling comprises primary and secondary rotors 21 and 17 ... 19 surrounding its stator 5 and respectively on input and output shafts 13, 15, whilst the braking coupling comprises on the output shaft 15 a rotor 24 surrounding its stator 6; the input shaft end within the casing is rotatably mounted in the adjacent end of the output shaft 15 which is supported in bearings 16, 20 in one casing end cover 10 and the driving coupling stator 5 respectively. The bimetallic secondary rotor 17 ... 19 may be made as disclosed in specification 1,056,270, and the primary rotor 21 has helical vanes 22 inducing an air flow through the end covers. Disposed between the braking coupling and the left-hand end cover 10 is either a spacing member or a tachometer generator 25 . . . 29, whilst in the embodiment shown there is disposed between the driving coupling and other end cover a driving electric motor 33. The bearings 14, 20 are lubricated from a nipple 30 or are dry bearings having e.g. a P.T.F.E. lead mixture coating.
