Abstract

1,094,305. Electro-photographic developers. DENNISON MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. (Dennison Manufacturing Co. U.S.A.) Dec. 21, 1964, No. 51904/64. Heading G2H. Liquid developers for electrostatic images comprises an emulsion having a continuous phase of an insulating liquid and a disperse phase comprising a dye dissolved in a second liquid immiscible with, and having a boiling point higher than that of, the insulating liquid, the dye being insoluble in the insulating liquid. In the Examples, the continuous phase comprises a mixture of paraffin hydrocarbons containing, as dispersant, either (1) octadecenyl methacrylate/styrene/ diethylaminomethacrylate terpolymer, or (2) a mixture of lauryl methacrylate/diethylaminomethacrylate copolymer and aluminium stearate. The disperse phases used are polypropylene glycol/methoxy polyethyleneglycol and dispersant (1), methoxypolyethylene glycol/ethanol, methoxypolyethylene glycol/dimethylsulphoxide, and water, each containing dyes; this phase is preferably a partial solvent for the surface of the imaging member.
