Abstract

1348879 Electrostatic developer EASTMAN KODAK CO 30 March 1972 [1 April 1971] 15094/72 Heading G2H An electro-photographic developer, of the kind comprising a dispersion of resin-coated pigment particles in a carrier liquid, is made by forming a mixture of a dye, a mordant salt, a resin, an optional surfactant and a solvent for the resin, removing at least part of the solvent and dispersing the mixture in the carrier liquid. Preferably the mixture is formed by mixing a solution of resin and dye with one of resin and mordant. The resin solvent may be water-soluble, and be removed from a mixture of dye, mordant, resin and water-insoluble liquid by washing with an aqueous medium. For example, the water-insoluble liquid may be an alkylated aromatic hydrocarbon, the resin solvent may be a mixture of methanol and methyl ethyl ketone, removed by mixing with water and decanting, and the carrier liquid may be a paraffinic hydrocarbon. Lists of usable resins, dyes, mordants, solvents, carrier liquids and surfactants are given.
