Abstract

A needle for a linking machine tapers gradually to an end point and has yarn loop controlling formations behind the tapered part for releasably catching yarn, the formations being carried at a side of the needle in the latter's passage through the old chain loop. The needle described has a recess forming a hook behind the tapered portion, and a pivoted latch adapted to close the recess. The latch is of shortened form and has an inclination of about 35 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the needle to avoid fouling adjacent loops in the needles retraction. The latch may be directed to either side of said axis.
