A ship's supplementary loading device for the long cargo hatchway of a long cargo hold 2 comprises derricks or cranes 6 rigidly mounted on a hatchway cover 5 which is releasably secured to the hatchway side coaming and the entire supplementary loading device is adapted to be lifted off and set down at some other point on board or ashore by means of the normal loading devices 3 which are a fixture on board. Dismantling of the supplementary loading device is therefore unnecessary.
