Abstract
Novel compounds of the formula <FORM:1093807/C2/1> wherein R1 and R2 are H or C1- 5 alkyl and R3 and R4 are C1- 5 alkyl are prepared by reacting 2,2-dialkyl-1,3-propylene diamines with urea, phosgene or carbonic acid esters to form 5,5-dialkylhexahydropyrimidones - 2, adding on formaldehyde in the presence of alkaline reagents, and, if desired, etherifying the resultant N,N1-dihydroxymethyl derivatives with alcohols in the presence of an acid catalyst.ALSO:A finishing agent for textile materials consisting of or containing natural or regenerated cellulose comprises a solution of a compound of the formula: <FORM:1093807/D1-D2/1> where R1 and R2 are H or C1-5 alkyl and R3 and R4 are C1-5 alkyl. The finishing agent is preferably used in aqueous solution together with an acid catalyst, and may be reacted with the textile material to form acetal bonds when wet or wholly or partly dried, either immediately or after storage in the impregnated but unreacted condition. The finishing agents may be used together with known finishing agents, e.g. dispersions of polymers such as a copolymer of n-butylacrylate, polyethylene, an ethylene oxide adduct, bleach, oxalic acid, NH4Cl and/or MgCl2. The finishing treatment preferably takes place at 130 to 160 DEG C, and the acidic catalyst may be a compound which decomposes to become acidic at these temperatures.
