Abstract

1,093,425. Cams. SIMMS GROUP RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd. June 9, 1965 [March 18, 1964], No. 11469/64. Heading F2K. [Also in Division F1] In a fuel injection pump comprising a piston 2 reciprocable and rotatable in a cylinder 3 reciprocating motion is transmitted to the piston by relative rotation between a spring- biased face cam 4 and rollers 6. To provide minimum surface compressive stress on the rollers 6 and cam profiles 5 the radius of the rollers is made equal to the radius of curvature of a major portion of the convex part of the cam profiles, plus or minus a tolerance of 20% of that radius of curvature. The cam 4 may be rotatable and the rollers 6 stationary or vice versa. The major portion of the convex part of the cam profile may be asymmetrical with respect to the profile.
