Abstract
1,093,342. Rising butt hinges. CROMPTON NETTLEFOLD STENMAN Ltd. July 18, 1966 [July 19, 1965], No. 30489/65. Heading E2F. A reversible rising hinge comprises two similar hinge plates, each with a tongue on one side bent into a hollow cylinder and an insert fixed in each cylinder having double rising helical engaging faces, one insert carrying a pin which engages an axial bore in the other insert, and means for preventing rotation of the inserts in their respective cylinders. Two hinge plates, 1 and 2 have tongues 3 and 4 formed into partial cylinders with a gap 5 The tongue 4 has an insert 6 with a double helical face 8 having a pin 9 projecting therefrom and a cylindrical body 12 gripped in the tongue. The other tongue 3 has a similar insert 10 with an axial bore rotatably receiving the pin. The helical faces may terminate in flats so that after, say a 90‹ turn, no further rise occurs. Each insert has a side fin, 14 held in the gap 5 to prevent rotation of the insert, and the lower insert is further held in the tongue by a rivet 17, which also secures the pin. Each, hinge plate has screw holes 16 countersunk from both sides of the inserts may be made of malleable iron, steel or nylon.
