Abstract
1,093,061. Reactors. SKODA NARODNI PODNIK. Jan. 3, 1966 [Jan. 3, 1965], No. 186/66. Heading G6C. The fuel channel tubes in a nuclear reactor are protected from thermal shocks during replacement of fuel elements having canning tubes through which a cooling medium flows by means of protective tubes rigidly or detachably secured to the ends of the canning tubes from which the heated cooling medium emerges. The protective tubes prevent any contact between the cooling medium and the fuel channel tubes during the entire period when the cooling medium leaving the fuel elements being replaced has a high temperature. The protective tube of a spent fuel element may be used to compensate for the increased neutron flux in neighbouring fuel channel tubes when the spent fuel element is being removed from its fuel channel tube.
