Abstract
981,927. Cooling reactors. UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Jan. 21, 1964 [Jan. 23, 1963], No. 2850/63. Heading G6C. In a gas cooled reactor the coolant flows vertically downwards through the core and passes into a hot gas chamber which is suspended from the underside of the diagrid supporting the core. The chamber suspension provides for thermal dimension changes. As shown, the core 5 is mounted on the diagrid 4 within the. pressure vessel 1. Coolant enters at 8b passes upwards along path A and downwards through the cahnnels 5a has channels 7 to the hot chamber 6 and exit duct 8a. The chamber 6 is suspended by rods 10 from 4. Each rod 10 engages a tube 13 through an intermediate concentric tube to permit thermal movements and the coupling is cooled by the gas flow B.
