Abstract
1,093,045. Travelling band filter. AJEM LABORATORIES Inc. Nov. 11, 1964 [Feb. 7, 1964], No. 33240/67. Divided out of 1,093,044. Heading B1D. In a travelling band filter in which the filter web (24) is entrained across a suction box 22 in a tank 20, a pump 134 draws filtrate from the box directly or from a filtrate reservoir 130 and delivers it to a user or to reservoir 130, depending on the setting of valves 135, 141. Tanks 130 and 20 have an overflow (142) which can transfer liquid either way depending on the levels. In Figs. 1, 2 the web (24) is disposable and wound from a supply roll 26 through tank 20, across a moving endless belt of parallel bars coacting with an upper opening in box 22, and to a discharge point. Movement is intermittent and manually controlled in response to falling pressure in box 22. A pipe 146 directs clean filtrate on to the underside of the web at the upper end of the box to ensure a good seal and to prevent air entering the box. In Figs. 3, 4 (not shown) the web (24a) is endless and entrained round the suction box which has two metal screens, above and below, by which filtrate enters the box through two sections of web. The box (22a) and the rollers supporting the web may be pivoted to lift them out of the liquid, about point (120), with the web drive motor acting as a counter-weight. The box has a flanged outlet co-operating, in the lowered position, with a similar flange (122) leading to the external pump (114), which is connected to reservoir (130a) as in Fig. 1. The web (24a) is cleaned by fixed jets (110, 112) directing water and air thereon. The outlet reservoir maintains filtrate flow during shutdown.
