Channels in pistons.-To reduce the quantity of lubricant entering the working chamber of an engine cylinder the piston is provided with a sharpedged ring g, which projects downwards into a slot d extending round the piston and scrapes oil from the cylinder wall a, the oil passing through the slot to the inside of the piston. The outer surface of the ring is tapered at r. Openings i, connecting the inside of the piston with the space above the ring g or with the groove of one of the upper rings h, supply oil to the rings and also equalize the pressure above and below the ring g. The piston may have an internal projection to direct the oil into the openings i.
