Abstract

1,092,046. Heat exchanger tube supports. SVENSKA MASKINVERKEN A.B. Jan. 18, 1965 [Jan. 17, 1964], No. 2083/65. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger comprises substantially vertical, longitudinally-finned tubes (8 or 8a) located in a gas flue (7 or 7a) the tube ends passing through the wall 10 of the flue (formed at these zones from tube plates 28, Fig. 2) to collecting and distributing manifolds, the gas flow being downwards through the flue to the lower end thereof which has a soot pocket (21 or 21a) and is connected by a tube-free passage (23 or 23a) to the top of an adjacent flue. Fig. 1 shows a steam generator in which the steam-generating tubes 8 extend from an inlet manifold 18 to outlet manifolds 13 or 14 connected by lines 15 to the boiler drum 2. 20 are soot blowers and 19 is an inspection door. From the flue 7 the gases pass via soot pocket 21 up an inclined, tube-free passage 23 to a flue 7a, and thence via soot pocket 21a to and through a tube-free passage 23a leading to another flue 7b. The tubes in flues 7a and 7b are mounted at their ends similarly to the tubes 8 in flue 7. A valve 26 at the foot of flue 23a enables some of the gases to be shunted direct to the outlet 27 if desired. The zones such as 9 (or 10<SP>1</SP>), 10<SP>11</SP>, 9a &c. where the tubes pass through the flue walls, are, as shown in Fig. 2, made up of a plurality of the tube plates 28 which are of channel section, welded together at 30, and shaped as shown so that a wedge-shaped gap 31 is formed between the flanges of adjacent plates thereby providing a resilient structure to accommodate relative expansion of the tubes.
