A tool holder comprises screws (10, 10<SP>1</SP>) for locking a tool 16 in a square-section passage (9) in a body (8) having a retaining pin (11) to engage a clamp in which the body is held. To adjust for depth of cut, the split clamp is angularly adjustable on the flap 2 of a planing device in a combined grinding and fluting machine for producing grooved rolls. The tool is relieved by a pivoted drag member 12 which also assists in deburring a previously cut flute.
