Abstract

1,090,275. Rotary strainer. C. J. HIGGINBOTTOM. March 8, 1966 [March 18, 1965], No. 11472/65. Heading BID. A strainer for separating solids from a liquid comprises a horizontal rotating disc-like sieve A having a concave central portion F, and, in use, mixture is delivered by pipes B (Fig. 2, not shown) on to the flat, outer part of the sieve, liquid drains into tank D with outlet E while solids are directed by suitably oriented fixed brushes G, engaging the top of the sieve, into the portion F. Portion F is emptied by elevating shovels H (Fig. 2), rotating about a horizontal axis in a vertical plane and conveying into a worm extrusion press I, J, from which solids are discharged at L. A fixed spray pipe M directs wash water on to the lower side of the sieve.
